Gotta start somewhere

seam·stress
ˈsēmstris/
noun
  1. a woman who sews, especially one who earns her living by sewing.

Woman? Check. Sews? Check. Occasionally makes money but mostly just spends it on sewing for her own entertainment? Check.

I'm a bit of an awkward person. It's true, it's fine, I've embraced it. I'm also a seamstress. So despite many attempts to come up with a witty title for this project, I ended up with this. But if the shoe fits...

I learned to sew by trial and many errors. For the most part I taught myself, though I had some guidance from my mom, grandma, my Home Ec teacher Mrs. Anderson, and Pinterest. I also hate patterns and I am well acquainted with my seam ripper. I learn something every time I sew, and enjoy jumping in the deep end; taking on projects and techniques I've never tried.

In the last few years I have really taken an interest in refashioning: taking old clothes and giving them new life. I have been a thrifter for years (mostly because I'm cheap...shh) and often found myself having to alter garments to get them to fit properly. So after following a couple refashioning blogs for a while, (notably ReFashionista, New Dress A Day, and Charity Shop Chic) I decided to try it for myself. And now I can't stop. I blame thank them for my obsession.

I decided recently to start documenting my refashions. Partly for myself, partly for my generational need for validation from strangers. Maybe people will see this and find inspiration, maybe not, but I'll have fun in the process.

I can't promise how often I update, it depends on my schedule and my procrastination. But I'll do my best! I'll probably even throw in some non-refashion sewing projects and crafts just for jollys.
